What's new

MyScript iink 4.5 comes packed with improvements and several noticeable new features. This page provides an overview of the changes.

Introducing the iink SDK 4.️5 native APIs

The C# bindings for Windows are not available for new APIs. If you need them, contact our sales team.

Updates about the handwriting generation

New resource for the handwriting generation of latin languages

Handwriting generation has been possible for English text since the release of iink SDK 4.1 and for Chinese text (GB2312 character set) since the release of iink SDK 4.2. Starting with MyScript iink SDK 4.5, you can generate multiple Latin languages text with a single resource mul_Latn-hw-gen.res.

  • This new mul_Latn-hw-gen.res resource supports handwriting generation for texts in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, and Portuguese.
  • It replaces and improves the performance and accuracy of the en-hw-gen.res resource.

➤ For more details on this resource and its setup, refer to the Handwriting generation page and migration guide.

Improved alignment and justification

We have introduced several properties to improve handwriting generation in terms of alignment and justification: Alignment can be left, right, or center. Justification can be none, greedy, or bounded. Finally, the generated text is reflowed according to the specified alignment/justification configuration and the given clipping zone.

➤ To learn how to use these handwriting generation configurations, see the Handwriting generation user guide.

Better smoothness of the generated handwriting

We increased the sampling rate of the points to improve the smoothness of the handwriting without affecting the performance of the generator.

New APIs allow you to create a page of a specific size and set a background image.

  • For some use cases, you may want to use a sized page. The ContentPackage has a new createPart API that allows you to create a ContentPart with such a fixed size.
  • You can then use the Editor's new setBackgroundImage API to add a background image to your page. This could be used, for example, for an image annotation use case.

➤ For more details on this feature and its setup, refer to the Editing page.

New APIs for reconfiguration

Editor and OffscreenEditor ContentPart reconfiguration

You can now force a ContentPart to be reconfigured when assigning it to an (Offscreen)Editor: The setPart API has been updated with a new boolean parameter (default: false, preserving existing behavior). When set to true, the part and its content fields are reconfigured using values from the current configuration, which overrides any existing values in the part. This is useful when reusing a part with different configuration settings, such as a new language or updated recognition or classification parameters.

➤ For more integration tips, refer to the Editor and to the OffscreenEditor sections.

Recognizer reconfiguration

We have introduced a new applyConfiguration API that updates the configuration of a Recognizer. Consequently, we updated the clear API so that it only clears the stroke input and recognition result.

OffscreenEditor now supports Thai and right-to-left languages

OffscreenEditor can now be used to provide language recognition and interactivity for the Thai language (th_TH Thai - Thailand) as well as for right-to-left languages:

  • ar Arabic
  • fa_IR Farsi - Iran
  • he_IL Hebrew - Israel
  • ur_PK Urdu - Pakistan

Support of Swift Package Manager

In order to support the Swift Package Manager, we have refactored the delivery of our iOS files:

  • The iink iOS binary files are hosted on GitHub, which allows them to be retrieved with SPM.
  • The iink iOS examples use SPM. They are available on GitHub.

➤ For more details, refer to the iOS GetStarted guide and to the migration guide.

Other changes

Selection improvements

Editor.getAvailableSelectionModes() now accepts a selection parameter and Editor.setSelection() now takes a selection mode parameter.

➤ For more details, please take a look at the selection and block section and at the migration guide.

New export.jiix.math.operators property

This new property activates the export of detailed information about the operators of the Math block in JIIX files: If an equation has multiple operators, an operators array is provided with the operands.

➤ The property is disabled by default to ensure backward compatibility. To access detailed information for operators, make sure you enable it.

Update to the latest MyScript technology

MyScript iink SDK 4.5 is based on the latest version of MyScript technology, which improves classification and recognition performance and brings general improvements.

This release includes a new raw-content2 resource that significantly reduces the memory usage of the analyzer process when dealing with large documents.

While recognition assets provided with MyScript iink SDK 4.4 will stay compatible, we recommend updating your users to the latest assets if you migrate them to 4.5.

If you upgrade from a previous version, please take a look at the migration guide.
